DAVE REUTER

If you’re ever trying to find Dave Reuter on a weekday morning, he’s probably at the Y. He spends five to six mornings a week at the Schlossman YMCA lifting weights, exercising on a cardio machine, or jumping into a group fitness class, like BODYFLOW® or Cycle. Additionally, two to three mornings a week he plays handball at the Fercho YMCA with his friends, which is his biggest passion.

Reuter grew up playing handball with his dad and brother at the Altru Family YMCA in Grand Forks, ND. “My brother and I would walk to the Y many days after school to play handball, ping pong, lift weights and go swimming. It was a two-mile walk, so then our parents would pick us up at the Y at night. I was always a member growing up!”

Not only was his interest for handball sparked at a young age, but it has continued into adulthood. In addition to playing regularly with friends, he also competes in regional tournaments every year, and was recently appointed to a leadership position on the FM Handball Club Committee, a group in which he has been a part of for many years.

Reuter has made many lifelong friends during his time at the Y. He likes that his friends and other members and staff keep him accountable. When he moved to the area 15 years ago, one of the first things he did was join the Y. Then we he got married, his wife joined onto his membership, too.

“I love the Y” he says. “I’m always so impressed with the people and the facilities.” Reuter also takes advantage of the Y’s Nationwide Membership Program, which allows members to access other Y locations around the country. Since he travels quite a bit for work, he has enjoyed utilizing other YMCAs in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and other locations. “There’s a Y wherever I go!”
