DAN ARMBRUST

Dan Armbrust, a devoted volunteer at the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties, was awarded the 2019 Charles Bailly Award at this year’s YMCA Heritage Dinner. The Charles Bailly Award is given annually to someone who leads with courage and who is always exploring better ways of doing things.

Dan has been involved in the YMCA his whole life, starting out as a swimming lesson participant when he was young. He officially joined as a member in 1981 and has continuously extended a generous hand to support the Y in many ways. He served on the Board of Directors for many years, serving as the chair in 1994. He has also served on the Endowment Board, Membership and Marketing Committee, Nominating Committee, Advisory Board, and helped raise funds for the Partner of Youth Campaign. Additionally, Dan served on the committee that started the YMCA Paul Howry Golf Tournament, an annual event that raises funds to help assist YMCA participants with mental and physical disabilities by providing them with equipment and services that allow them to stay active and learn life skills. Dan and his committee members spent countless hours raising funds and planning details for the first few tournaments. The Y celebrated its 30th annual Paul Howry tournament in 2019. In 1996 Dan was awarded the Flickertail Volunteer of the Year Award, a regional award given for his extensive work with the YMCA, while serving as an intentional leader and taking on challenges.

Dan continues to come into the downtown Fercho YMCA almost every day of the week. He stops in before work for some weight lifting, cardio, sauna, an occasional swim, and conversation with friends.
