Diverse Abilities
The YMCA is for everyone! We emphasize each person’s abilities and individuality by offering adaptive opportunities that foster independence while providing positive recreational and educational experiences. Our qualified staff and community partners help individuals gain confidence, promote independence and responsibility, and nurture a healthy and active lifestyle.

Adaptive Swimming Lessons
The YMCA is happy to provide Adaptive Swimming Lessons, to ensure participants of all needs and skill levels can learn water safety and enjoy the pool. These one-on-one lessons are for swimmers with special needs - including autism, sensory issues, physical disabilities, and more - and are tailored towards the skills of each participant. Instructors will communicate with parents even more than usual to ensure that each swimmer is working towards an agreed upon goal. Adaptive lessons are available for swimmers of all ages - from infants to adults!
The Fercho Swim School is a Level 2 Autism Friendly Partner, where our YMCA swim instructors receive Autism Friendly Community Training through the North Dakota Autism Center. Our instructors are excited to provide a welcoming environment for swimmers of all abilities.
